چکیده

We investigate unconditional security for message authentication protocols that are designed using two-channel cryptography. (Two-channel cryptography employs a broadband, insecure wireless channel and an authenticated, narrow-band manual channel at the same time.) We study both noninteractive message authentication protocols (NIMAPs) and interactive message authentication protocols (IMAPs) in this setting. First, we provide a new proof of nonexistence of nontrivial unconditionally secure NIMAPs. This proof consists of a combinatorial counting argument and is much shorter than the previous proof by Wang and Safavi-Naini, which was based on probability distribution arguments. We also prove a new result which holds in a weakened attack model. Further, we propose a generalization of an unconditionally secure 3-round IMAP due to Naor, Segev and Smith. The IMAP is based on two -∆ universal hash families. With a careful choice of parameters, our scheme improves that of Naor et al. Our scheme is very close to optimal for most parameter situations of practical interest. Finally, a variation of the 3-round IMAP is presented, in which only one hash family is required.

Practical Proven Secure Authentication with Arbitration

Proven secure signature schemes and unconditionally secure authentication schemes with arbiter have been proposed. The former are not practical (too slow) and the latter cannot be reused. All these limitations are solved in this paper by presenting a resuable conditionally secure authentication scheme with arbiter. The scheme is unconditionally secure against denial by the sender of having sent...

An ECC-Based Mutual Authentication Scheme with One Time Signature (OTS) in Advanced Metering Infrastructure

Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) is a key part of the smart grid; thus, one of the most important concerns is to offer a secure mutual authentication.  This study focuses on communication between a smart meter and a server on the utility side. Hence, a mutual authentication mechanism in AMI is presented based on the elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) and one time signature (OTS) consists o...

RULING OUT A MAN-IN-THE-MIDDLE ATTACK IN QUANTUM CRYPTOGRAPHY” AYSAJAN ABIDIN and JAN-ÅKE LARSSON

Quantum Cryptography, or more accurately Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), is an unconditionally secure key growing technique based on the principles of quantum mechanics. It is unconditionally secure because no quantum state can be copied or measured without disturbing it. However, the practical implementation of QKD protocols requires an immutable public channel. In case the public channel is n...

Information Theoretically Secure Encryption with Almost Free Authentication

In cryptology, secure channels enable the exchange of messages in a confidential and authenticated manner. The literature of cryptology is rich with proposals and analysis that address the secure communication over public (insecure) channels. In this work, we propose an information theoretically secure direction for the construction of secure channels. First, we propose a method of achieving un...
